This color-coded exercise book is used with students as they learn to write using the Sunform Motor Plan. Newly introduced letters are added to word families to form/spell real words. This multifunctional word family exercise book not only provides immediate handwriting practice, but the opportunity to blend sounds, master short vowels, read rhyming words with fluency and develop vocabulary. 24 pages.

Challenge your child to create a word family book filled with words that are part of the "-at" family. In this phonics worksheet your child will need to fill in the blanks with the beginning letters of the words that rhyme, and then color the pictures. You can have your child say what each picture is out loud to decide what the beginning letter is in each word. Then, cut the paper into four pieces and staple it into a book! Your child can add more pages as he learns new members of the "-at" family. (Hint: The past tense of "sit", a kind of rodent, an annoying insect.)

Word Family Books - Sunform Alphabet

I use these Word Family flip books in my Beginning to Read program. I find they are very effective in encouraging young children to see the relationship between BAT, CAT, FAT, MAT, PAT, RAT and SAT. To adults, it is very obvious that these words are related. They all end the with “AT.” To a beginning reader, the relationship between these words may not be understood. When children create a Word Family flip book, they notice the relationship between these words and they quickly learn to substitute the beginning sounds.
